Bounce Back

I talked with a pastor friend who visited us. He was so excited to share an experience of victory in one of the church members.

" This brother testified that he had been in the bottom that he was so sure that going up is the next thing to happen", my friend related.

This brother he mentioned was engaged in business and had experienced terrible set backs.

The lamp post

I became curious. Why the light in this lamp post is not as bright as the rest?

I was walking toward our block and I can spot the difference at a distance. In a row of ten lamp posts, this one is obviously dimmer than the rest. It became clearer to me when I stood directly under the lamp. There were dead insects piled up inside the glass cover. How did the insects get there? It puzzled my mind because it was sealed.

The age riddle

"What is in a person that just goes up and will never come down?", asked the seven year old girl. She raised her eyebrows as she glanced at me confident that the question was real difficult for me to answer. She was disappointed that I knew the answer

I like to play riddles with young children for it will prod them to think.

"Just do nothing", my friend said, after nobody can think of any other reason. Almost everyone was startled. Nobody thought about it. That included myself.

Biblical Paradigms Part 7

A common problem in traditional church is the role of the pastor.

He is often seen to be the church's "Superman".

From preaching to sweeping, from evangelism to visitation, from writing books to writing church bulletins, from counselling to cleaning toilets, the Super Pastor is to do it all.

Biblical Paradigms Part 6

Witnessing for Jesus.

Many Christians often think it's like being a salesman for Jesus! There is a lot of pressure exerted upon the listener, almost as if a decision of faith must be squeezed out and we have to press even harder.

But we should be discerning. Yes, there are times when the Spirit of God leads us to be more direct. But at all times, we should be sensitive to how much the other person can take....

Biblical Paradigms Part 5

When is evangelism best done?

Christians traditionally will say "In church of course!" (referring to the church services)

But think about it. Is it true?

We have been so romanticised about evangelism. We think the only way people can get saved is if we get them to church, and let my pastor preach fire into them...

Biblical Paradigms Part 4

Who would you rather be with?

Many Christians would love to be with Christians. That's natural. We are a family in Christ.

But I think if Jesus is still here today, I suspect He'll choose to be with the world most of the time!
